Blog 6 - Second Interview Preparation

1.) Who is your mentor, and where do they work?
A: I currently don't have a mentor. If I keep contacting then maybe I might have some luck. They would most likely work in an ice rink or a shop that sells ice skating materials.

Blog 5 - Mentorship Reflection

1. Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?  If you haven't found one yet, describe your experience so far in the search of a mentor.
A: So far, finding a mentor is kind of tough. Especially, when someone says they can provide you with a mentorship, but don't go through with what they say. Then again, the process of volunteering somewhere does take a while, so for now I'm going to keep calling and emailing all the places I've contacted so far.

2. Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
A: So far I have found an article on a British website that describes figure skating. It tends to describe certain small aspects that make up the graceful sport.

August Mentorship

At this moment I have a hard time finding a mentor. I do have one particular lead who is willing to offer me a mentorship. I will ask him more about it when I go for my interview which is scheduled for the 9/2. (I have separate questions for the interview.) Currently, I am making other phone calls to different ice rinks around the area. I hope that the person I go interview will give me a mentorship opportunity like he said he will.

A: I plan to interview an ice skating coach due to the fact that she/he might have an idea of the different types of ice skating that relate to my question. (Ice skating types referring to fitness skating, compulsory skating, etc.)

• What are some benefits from ice skating?
• How does teaching others how to skate benefit you as a coach?
• There are many different forms of ice skating. How can these different forms of ice skating help someone better themselves? (For example, if a skater was training for a competition.)
• To you, what is most important about ice skating?
• Does perseverance play an important role?

3.) What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?
A: I noticed that your practically all over the place when it comes to places where you perform. Is performing at many different locations a good way to earn pay? How many days a week do you work? Is it hard working two gigs? (Working during both day and night.) Do you enjoy the places where you perform? What inspired you to be a musician as your career?

4.) What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
A: It would be that sometimes in order to earn pay, you have to be willing to go many places. Whether it'd be near or far. You would also have to provide your own musical equipment such as speakers, stands, amplifiers, etc.

5.) What is your senior project topic going to be? How did what you did help you choose a topic? Please explain.
A: Originally I wanted to do Ice Skating as my senior project. However, I realize that the volunteer process took longer than expected, so when I ran out of time I had turned to my dad. My dad is an underground musician, so he's not famous but he works at small and sometimes large venues. I still plan to do my senior project on Ice Skating. I have Ice Skated before in the past, and I think it would be a great opportunity to share more about Ice Skating since not very many people know about it. I like the idea of maybe doing my senior project on what my dad does because he is a professional musician, but Ice Skating is more of my own personal choice.
